Carla The Wonder Dog

Carla, my Golden Retriever, is going to be nineteen (19) years old this July. I have had her since a puppy and got her from the local dog pound.
I must say that she has been the greatest companion a person could wish for -- a perfect best friend.
She is starting to fail now but is closely monitored to make sure she is not in pain. She is suffering from Hip Dysplasia as many Golden Retrievers do.
She now receives one aspirin (82mg) a day. She was spayed at a young age and has never had a hand raised to her, yelled at or abused in any way. I found that she responded to quiet talking during her training days the best.
She gets walked every day (still) and has never been tied up or put on a leash except when taking her to the vet.
She has been fed nothing but high quality dog food but still has special treats such as steak, a hamburger and spaghetti and meat sauce (her favourite) occasionally.
She has known nothing but love and affection, as she deserves, all her life. If she had vocal chords, I am sure she would have a vocabulary of over two hundred words.
I am going to keep her as long as I can without her suffering or being in pain. I will really miss her. Look after your "Golden"!
Nancy's Note -- Wow, Sandy! Carla has made it to a ripe old age, for sure! How wonderful, that she's known such loving care all her long life. A Golden who likes spaghetti -- how fun!
And the gentle, quiet training is always the best, especially for our tenderhearted, people-pleasing Goldens. Thanks for sharing your story with us. We'd love to see a picture, too, if you get a chance sometime. I'm sure Carla's a sweetie.
