My Foster Dog, Apple

After my beloved GSD passed, my heart was broken. My house was so empty and I missed canine companionship.
When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, I volunteered to foster a misplaced pup. One foster pup led to another until I got Apple. Eight months old, purebred, and had already had 3 different homes. I agreed to foster her until she could be sent to a Golden rescue center in Colorado.
Talk about a HYPER dog! I spent 3 days throwing a tennis ball in the backyard to help her get rid of pent-up energy. I believe she was crated most of her puppy life. I had a crate in the house but never closed the door to lock her in. She found comfort in that crate but would dig at the crate floor almost OCD.
Long story short, I decided that this little gal would be my new canine life companion. I adopted her from CARE (Central Arkansas Rescue Effort.... a great organization!)
Apple and I have been together almost 4 years now. She is a great dog, happy always, loves her toys and walks. I was blessed to have found her.
Everyone should consider fostering and/or adopting needy pups. My fosters all found great homes. It's hard to believe that some folks just turn their backs and give up on the best pups!
Nancy's Note: What a beautiful story with a happy ending! Bless you, Kris, for opening your heart and home to Apple and other fosters before him. Apple is gorgeous! You're both fortunate to have found each other.
