My Foster Dog, Apple

by Kris
(Little Rock AR)

After my beloved GSD passed, my heart was broken. My house was so empty and I missed canine companionship.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, I volunteered to foster a misplaced pup. One foster pup led to another until I got Apple. Eight months old, purebred, and had already had 3 different homes. I agreed to foster her until she could be sent to a Golden rescue center in Colorado.

Talk about a HYPER dog! I spent 3 days throwing a tennis ball in the backyard to help her get rid of pent-up energy. I believe she was crated most of her puppy life. I had a crate in the house but never closed the door to lock her in. She found comfort in that crate but would dig at the crate floor almost OCD.

Long story short, I decided that this little gal would be my new canine life companion. I adopted her from CARE (Central Arkansas Rescue Effort.... a great organization!)

Apple and I have been together almost 4 years now. She is a great dog, happy always, loves her toys and walks. I was blessed to have found her.

Everyone should consider fostering and/or adopting needy pups. My fosters all found great homes. It's hard to believe that some folks just turn their backs and give up on the best pups!

Nancy's Note: What a beautiful story with a happy ending! Bless you, Kris, for opening your heart and home to Apple and other fosters before him. Apple is gorgeous! You're both fortunate to have found each other.

Apple
by: kris

Well the fostering did not stop after adopting Apple. She turned out to be a great pup, always welcomed other needy pups into our home. I now have Rocket, a Golden mix. Came to me when he had 24 hrs left on this world. I fostered him. he was adopted, but was not happy w/ his new family. He came back to me after 6 months. Wish I could post a pic of him, he is a very handsome man. For all you folks out there, contact your local rescue centers. There are many awesome dog out there. They all deserve a second or even third chance.

Cute story
by: Yankees+GoldenRetreivers=ME

I have been thinking about getting a Golden Retreiver for a while (2-3) yrs and your story motivated me even more. My friend told me every single shelter dog was a problem so I went to the shelter and found out that was entirely not true. Your story convinced me even more!!
