The Love of a Dog

In our world of lonely, busy days,
We all need to have a friend.
Someone to share your life with,
Who'll be beside you, right till the end.
He greets you when you walk through the door,
Can't wait until you are there!
His face and his tail--a dead giveaway,
Saying, "Don't you get it? I'm here and I care!"
His undying love and affection
Is given 24 hours each day.
What he asks in return is simple,
A little food, your love and to play.
HE surely knew what it meant,
To send us His creatures to love.
Dogs are gifts to be treasured,
Sent directly from God up above.
Pups come in all shapes and sizes,
All colors, breeds and sounds.
From the tiniest of teacup terriers,
To the greatest of hunting hounds.
They all have one thing in common,
In our hearts we're glad this is so.
Dogs are loyal and they love you,
Much more than you'll ever know.
So, when you count life's blessings,
And you list them from bottom to top.
You'll list family, friends and your job,
But that's NOT where you should stop.
Remember to list that buddy you've got,
The one who will listen, but never tell.
The one who is loyal and there by your side,
Whether you praise him or you yell.
I clearly don't know what you do,
But I count my blessings every day.
I start with my beloved dogs,
Toby, Sophie, Cassie and Georgia Kaye.
Nancy's Note: Thank you SO much, Christy, for your lovely poem! It's so true -- our dogs are an incredible blessing to us. We should never take them for granted, but be very grateful that they are a big part of our lives!
